Background

VEIL is a duality. The only participant in the SLP to survive the overdosing procedure after digitization, VEIL bears a duplicate existence — his digitized consciousness lives eternally in the Ouroboros, while his true consciousness remains in his physical body.

During the overdose, his post-death experience flooded him with hyperlight for long enough to have lasting effects on him mentally and physically. He is able to sense and visually perceive entities made of, or shrouded by, hyperlight, and has ceased to age at a normal rate.

He was offered a position at ARGOS(C) with extremely high pay, as compensation for the botched procedure, as a bribe to keep the incident from the courts, and to keep him as an asset to the corporation.

All story points which involve VEIL as a dream-space protagonist are contained within Ouroboros simulation, after consciousness digitization was complete. All story points which involve VEIL as a real-world protagonist are either on Earth or in the Interim. Both parts of his duality exist simultaneously, and act as two separate entities. They do not share sense or memory.

While technically named acting ARGOS(C) COO after the disappearance of Sam Abas, VEIL despised the idea of being a C-suite executive and chose to work in the Research Triad instead. He was a PHOBOS Scout for years, transferring after a second death event at the hands of the now-captured body-stealing anomaly: p6B4A48. After his second revival, he becomes obsessed with the Interim, eventually killing himself in the Viridian’s containment room to travel back once more. Waking, woundless, in a pool of his own blood, Viridian humming on its plinth, VEIL surrenders to the reality that he is effectively invulnerable to physical harm. Death would not take him for such minor things as physical injury.

After his third death, he requests a transfer to HYPERION and works quietly as a Memory Monitoring Specialist while begrudgingly accepting the COO role. The invisible hand, directing ARGOS(C) operations from Point Isolation.
